A Tempo this Saturday (9/2) at 7 pm highlights two performances - one a fundraiser, and another paying tribute to those lost to Covid - that have roots in the early days of the pandemic

The pandemic and its impact continue to inspire and inform creative and artistic works, and A Tempo this week puts the spotlight on two upcoming performances that have some roots in during that period.

Bethany and Susanna Bobbs, now juniors at the Juilliard School and Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music, respectively, organized a virtual fundraising concert in May 2020 after watching performances and other musical opportunities disappear for their sister and other musician friends and family. They revived their "Harmony for Healing" concert format last year to support relief efforts after the war in Ukraine began, and on Sept. 9 they will host another fundraiser, this time to aid those whose lives were devastated by the wildfires in Maui. Host Rachel Katz will chat with them about the upcoming concert and their thoughts about where they might take Harmony for Healing in the future.

Rachel will also speak with Sandra Rivera, a teaching artist, senior dancer and guest artist with Dances for a Variable Population, which brings dance classes and other interactive programs and performances to older adults in New York. The organization will put on two performances of its REVIVAL 7 series Sept. 9 (at Washington Square Park Garibaldi Plaza) and Sept. 23 (at Yolanda Garcia Park in the Bronx), which features a series of individually choreographed dances, each honoring and paying tribute to a person lost during the pandemic.
