Report Shows Rise in Contemporary Music and Women Composers on Programs

A Tempo Saturday (1/13) looks at the latest annual Classical Music Statistic report by Bachtrack, showing trends in types of music performed, as well as top composers, concertos and busiest conductors.

The website Bachtrack.com, which lists upcoming live and digital performances from around the world, just released its latest Classical Music Statistics Report, which among other findings tracked an increase in the proportion of contemporary works on concert programs, as well as a greater number of living women composers represented. The report also includes findings on most frequently performed composers and concertos, and tracks who the busiest conductors and orchestras are. A Tempo host Rachel Katz chats with Backtrack co-founder Alison Karlin about the report, including the continued lack of women conductors on major podiums and the increase in the number of performances of works by Gustav Mahler, Kurt Weill and Sergei Rachmaninov.

Rachel Katz is the host of A Tempo which airs Saturdays at 7 pm.
