Founded in 1984, Urban Bush Women has been a pioneering African-American dance and performance organization with a focus on under-told stories and cultural traditions of the African diaspora. Its programs bring together artists, audiences and communities and it supports producers through leadership and development training. The group will kick off its 40th anniversary celebration as part of Lincoln Center’s Summer for the City Festival, and A Tempo host Rachel Katz speaks with the season’s associate producer Pia Monique Murray about these plans and the ensemble’s accomplishments and mission over the past four decades.
