The New York Public library for the Performing Arts is brimming with history, as exemplified in its research collections of photos of composers, original manuscripts, sketches of set designs, and other archival materials. Located in Lincoln Center, the library houses divisions on music, dance, recorded sound, and theatre, as well as an archive of film and tape recordings of live theatre performances. And all that is in addition to its stacks of books available for circulation, reference materials, children’s storytime activities, the regular exhibitions, and regular exhibitions of its collections.
This year marks the library’s 60th anniversary, and Lincoln Center’s Summer for the City Festival includes a week of events beginning July 23 to celebrate and bring attention to the resources and services the library offers the public. A Tempo host Rachel Katz speaks with the library's Executive Director, Roberta Pereira, about the library's collections, anniversary celebrations, and significance to the performing arts' world.
