A Tempo (10/25) gets a preview of the upcoming exhibit 'The Magical Flute: Beauty, Enchantment and Power' at the Musical Instrument Museum.

From whistles to panpipes, to the modern concert orchestra flute, people have incorporated flutes into their lives in various ways, and a new exhibit at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, Ariz. will highlight this relationship. “The Magical Flute: Beauty, Enchantment and Power,” opening Nov. 7, will display about 100 instruments ranging from the neolithic era through contemporary styles. There are also costumes, sketches and other items that illustrate the ways in which the flute has been integrated into human life and ritual.

A Tempo Host Rachel Katz chats with Matthew Zeller, the museum’s Curator for Europe, about what’s on display and other related programs taking place in connection with the exhibition.
