In its series on holiday season traditions, A Tempo (12/20) features a conversation about the Metropolitan Opera's family-friendly production of Mozart's The Magic Flute.

For nearly 20 years, Julie Taymor’s English-language production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute has been part of the Metropolitan Opera's family holiday presentation picks. This year, the Met unveiled a 90-minute adaptation to make it even more accessible and added new kid-friendly activities for the performances and its Family Open House event.

A Tempo host Rachel Katz spoke with the Met's Associate Director of Education, Nicholas Rinehart, about this year's production, which runs through Jan. 3, the annual Open House (held this year on Dec. 14), and the other educational programs the Met has created to connect students of all ages with this art form.
