The Chelsea Music Festival, which runs from June 20-27, explores the theme of "Every Story Counts," continuing its mission to promote works by contemporary composers, ranging from jazz to classical, and encouraging collaboration in music and the visual and culinary arts. This year’s events include an opening concert with mezzo-soprano Clara Ozowski, a piano salon by pianist Min Kwon featuring selections from her America/Beautiful variations project, performances by the Festival Orchestra and the Verona Quartet, and a closing jazz finale. A theatrical concert directed by Bill Barclay brings together Aaron Copland’s incidental music with the writings of Mark Twain.
A Tempo host Rachel Katz catches up with the festival’s Founders and Artistic Directors Melinda Lee Masur and Ken-David Masur to chat about the festival, and how its theme pays tribute to the American Semiquincentennial.
