Mar. 8 & 9 - Live Piano Treasures

350 Episode 0350 Live Treasures with Joseph Patrych (2022-03-08).mp3

The ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys celebrates its 350th episode this week.

To mark the occasion, the Classical Network’s Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler has invited Joseph Patrych back to the show to present rare live recordings featuring keyboard legends Ivo Pogorelich, Vladimir Horowitz and Shura Cherkassky.

A recording producer and the owner of Martin Patrych Memorial Studios in New York, Mr. Patrych has produced award winning CDs for numerous labels, including Bis, BMG, Bridge, Nonesuch and Music & Arts, and has designed and built recording and archival studio facilities for Harvard University, the University of Missouri at Kansas City, the Edison National Historic Site and the International Piano Archives at Maryland.

Mr. Patrych is also a leading expert on and connoisseur of piano performances, past and present. From 1977 to 1993, he and Bruce Posner co-hosted and produced Concert Grande, a radio program devoted to all things pianistic.

“I was an avid listener, as well as an occasional guest,” Distler recalls. “Looking back, I think that Concert Grande provided the initial inspiration and impetus for me to develop Between the Keys. So I thought it entirely fitting for Joe to join me for our 350th episode.”

Tune into Between the Keys this Tuesday March 8th at 10:00 PM, with a rebroadcast Wednesday March 9th at noon, exclusively on The Classical Network and WWFM.org.
