Episode 400 - New Record Forum

The Classical Network's Artist in Residence Jed Distler is the creator, producer and host of the long-running ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, which marks its 400th episode this week.

To celebrate this milestone, Jed came up with an idea that he freely admits to borrowing from an earlier New York-area radio program.

"My good friends Bruce Posner and Joseph Patrych hosted a program called 'Concert Grande' for many years, on which they'd occasionally feature a 'New Record Forum.' They'd bring in a panel to listen to new piano releases without knowing the performers' identities. After discussing what they had heard, the panelists then would learn just whom had been playing. So I though it would be fun to replicate the forum, with none other and Bruce and Joe as two of our guest panelists!"

The third panelist is acclaimed international concert pianist and former Between the Keys guest Sarah Cahill, who also is a longtime radio personality, and the host of Revolutions Per Minute on San Francisco's KALW.

"Naturally, I can't reveal the names of the pianist's we'll be hearing," Jed says, "but I can tell you that the composers are Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms and Prokofiev."

Celebrate Between the Keys' 400th Episode and (hopefully) first New Record Forum this Tuesday night at 10, with a rebroadcast Wednesday at noon, exclusively on The Classical Network and WWFM.org
