On this week's episode of the ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, The Classical Network's Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler celebrates the great Spanish pianist Alicia de Larrocha (1923-2009) in a centenary tribute.
"I can't think of any pianist or piano love who doesn't admire this artist," says Jed. "She obtained huge and colorful sonorities from her little hands, making music that making exuded passion, joy and emotional generosity at every turn. I was fortunately to have heard her in concert several times, and her presence has stuck with me all these years."
Composers featured this hour include Granados, Albeniz, Mozart, Mompou, Schumann, Soler, Montsalvatge and Mendelssohn, plus several compositions that de Larrocha herself composed in her youth.
Tune in to Between the Keys this Friday at 3:00 PM, with the rebroadcast Saturday at 6:00 PM, exclusively on The Classical Network and WWFM.org
