The "Ideal" Schumann Kreisleriana Op 16

This week's episode of the ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys offers another in a series of piano cycles presented via "ideal" recordings.

"The concept is this," explains The Classical Network's Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler, who is the creator, producer and host for Between the Keys. "I take a multi-movement work such as Schumann's Kreisleriana, and choose a different pianist for each of this work's eight pieces, but without repeating a pianist. I look for pianists that bring something special to these particular movements. Now this doesn't mean that these are the 'best' recordings of these movements, but rather that these are performances I especially enjoy, with no weak links, hopefully!"

Jed won't reveal who plays what, but you will hear the following eight pianists in no particular order: Vladimir Horowitz, Klara Wurtz, Abbey Simon, Alfred Cortot, Wilhelm Kempff, Alexander Lonquich, Jonathan Biss and Sigurd Slåttebrekk.

Tune to to Between the Keys on Friday at 3:00 PM, with the rebroadcast Saturday at 6:00 PM, exclusively on The Classical Network and WWFM.org
