The Classical Network's Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler has an unusual game plan for this week's episode of the ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys.
"I decided to pick ten different numbered piano sonatas from one to ten at random. Then I programmed one single movement from each of these sonatas going in numerical order. How this all works as a play list is an open question, but I thought it would be an interesting experiment."
So going in numerical order from one to ten, we will hear movements from sonatas by Hindemith, Norman Dello Joio, Carl Vine, Galina Ustvolskaja, Sergei Prokofiev, Vincent Persichetti, W.A. Mozart, Samuel Feinberg, Geoffrey Allen and William Bland. And we have Scarlatti’s Sonata K. 11 for good luck!
Tune in to Between the Keys, an exclusive production of The Classical Network and WWFM.org, Friday at 3:00 PM, with the rebroadcast Saturday at 6:00 PM.
