On this week’s episode of the ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, The Classical Network’s Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler explores musicians who recorded the same piece on more than one occasion.
“It’s always interesting to compare an artist’s earlier recording of a piece of music to that artist’s later remake, or remake,” Distler says. “You can learn a lot about how one’s interpretations can evolve over a long period of time.”
In addition to comparative performances by Shura Cherkassky, Arthur Rubinstein, Marc-André Hamelin, Alexander Brailowsky and other pianists, Distler also will include comparative Bach performances featuring violinist Joseph Szigeti and cellist Mstislav Rostropovich.
Tune in to Between The Keys, this Friday at 3:00 PM, with the rebroadcast Saturday at 6:00 PM.
