On this week's episode of the ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, The Classical Network's Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler presents recordings by Eugene List (1918-1985).
This brilliant American pianist first won international fame when he was selected to perform at the 1945 Potsdam conference for Harry Truman, Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin, the three Allied leaders who attended the conference. Although he performed a wide-ranging repertoire, List had a particular interest in American music that ventured back to the late 1700s. He made some of the earliest long playing recordings of works by Percy Grainger and Louis Moreau Gottschalk, and recreated several of Gottschalk's multi-piano "monster concerts."
We'll hear Eugene List play works on this episode by Gottschalk, Brahms, Debussy, Scarlatti, Shostakovich and Gershwin. Tune in Friday 3:00 PM and Saturday 6:00 PM to Between the Keys, an exclusive production of The Classical Network and WWFM.org.
