Composers have long drawn inspiration from the night, exploring darkness, desolation, stillness, calm, repose, dreams and other characteristics that we all experience when the sun goes down.
Benjamin Dale's "Night Fancies" and Elliott Carter's "Night Fantasies" are the featured large-scale piano works on this week'd edition of the ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, hosted by The Classical Network's Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler. The program also includes works by Radiohead arranged and performed by Christopher O'Riley, Franz Schubert transcribed by Leopold Godowsky, Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms. And you'll hear Dylan Thomas reading his classic poem "Do Not Go Gently Into That Good Night."
Tune in to Between the Keys this Friday at 3:00 PM, with the rebroadcast Saturday at 6:00 PM, exclusively on The Classical Network and WWFM.org
