For this week’s edition of the ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, The Classical Network’s Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler presents the first book of Franz Liszt’s monumental Années de Pèlerinage, with a different pianist in each of the nine pieces, and without repeating a pianist.
“When I say that this is an ‘ideal’ representation of the cycle, I don’t necessarily mean than these are the ‘best’ recordings for each of the nine pieces,” Jed explains. “However, there are no weak links among the performances, and these pianists represent many generations of Liszt interpreters.”
The pianists you’ll hear are Fabienne Jacquinot, Nelson Freire, Muza Rûbackyté, Vladimir Horowitz, Daniel Grimwood, Lazar Berman, Jerome Lowenthal, France Clidat, Joseph Villa and Ryan Behan.
Tune in to Between the Keys, this Friday at 3:00 PM, with the rebroadcast Saturday at 6:00 PM, exclusively on The Classical Network and WWFM.org.
