For this week’s edition of the ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, The Classical Network’s Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler pays offers a program called “On and Off Kilter.”
“Sometimes a piece of music or a performance can make you feel a little unsettled or uncertain, where the rhythm or the pacing or the phrasing takes off in an unexpected direction, or else your expectations are thwarted, as if the composer or the performer is toying with you,” says Jed. “And that’s precisely what we’re exploring on this week’s episode.”
Featured composers include Igor Stravinsky, Ornette Coleman, Leos Janacek, Ludwig van Beethoven, Karl Aage Rasmussen, Frederic Chopin and Mary Ellen Childs.
Tune in to Between the Keys, this Friday at 3:00 PM, with the rebroadcast Saturday at 6:00 PM, exclusively on The Classical Network and WWFM.org.
