Gliding and Swirling

For this week’s edition of the ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, The Classical Network’s Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler explores a wide variety of piano music that evokes vivid images of motion in gliding, swirling and cascading motion.

Composers are Aleksei Stanchinskiy, Eugenia Appiani, Nikolai Medtner, Julie von Webenau, Sergei Rachmaninov, Robert Schumann, Henry Purcell, Conlon Nancarrow, Claude Debussy, Frederic Chopin, Kaija Saariaho, Conlon Nancarrow, Duke Ellington, Tatiana Nikolayeva, François Dompierre and Clarice Assad.

Pianists include Earl Hines, Inna Faliks, Roger Woodward, Benno Moiseiwitsch, Cristian Sandrin, Adelina de Lara, Yaara Tal, Eileen Joyce, Alain Lefèvre, Matthew Schellhorn, Malcolm Binns, Ruben Micieli, Arseny Tarasevich-Nikolaev, Ilja Hurnik, Tuija Hakkila and Yvar Mikhashoff.
