On this week's episode of the ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, The Classical Network's Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler explores the rich recorded legacy of pianist Anatoly Vedernikov (1920-1993).
Vedernikov's artistry may not be so well known as other Russian pianists of his generation like Emil Gilels and Sviatoslav Richter, yet he recorded a wide range of repertoire, much of which has been reissued in Japan. "Vedernikov is one of many Russian pianists who took a long time before they finally appeared in the West," Jed explains. "As a consequence, their recordings weren't easily available. However, I've collected many Vedernikov CDs (most of which are out of print, of course!), and I think his best performances deserve attention."
Tune in thus Friday at 3:00 PM and Saturday at 6:00 PM for Between the Keys, an exclusive production of The Classical Network and WWFM.org
