An extraordinarily prolific composer, Nino Rota wrote some 150 film scores, from the 1930s through his death in Rome in 1979. Yet somehow, in his spare time, he managed to write ten operas, five ballets, and dozens of other orchestral, choral, and chamber works, and incidental music for the stage. We’ll sample from a handful of his screen classics, for his birthday, including The Godfather and The Godfather Part II, Rocco and His Brothers, The Leopard, and 8 ½. An hour of Rota is an offer you can’t refuse, this Saturday at 6 pm.
