Allentown Symphony Performs Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue on Friday Broadcast

This concert Friday (1/31 at 8 pm) also includes works by William Grant Still, Billy Childs and Samuel Coleridge Taylor.

Music Director Diane Wittry leads the Allentown Symphony Orchestra in this concert from last November celebrating the 100th anniversary of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, with soloist Simon Mulligan. The other works on the program are by composers of African heritage: the English-born Samuel Coleridge Taylor's Ballade for Orchestra; American composer and pianist Billy Childs’ Diaspora Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra featuring the soloist from whom the work was composed the outstanding Steven Banks; and William Grant Still’s Symphony No. 1, Afro-American Symphony. Maestro Wittry co-hosts with David Osenberg.
