This concert broadcast Monday (2/24 at 8 pm) includes works by Julia Perry, George Walker and William Levi Dawson.

For this last Monday in February, this week’s concert broadcast presents a selection from past performances by the dynamic young orchestra The Orchestra Now made up of young musicians from across the globe’s great music conservatories & schools, based at Bard College and led by their Music Director and longtime Bard President Maestro Leon Botstein. The musical line-up features George Walker’s Pulitzer Prize winning setting of Walt Whitman’s Lilacs for soprano orchestra ; two works from Julia Perry, who combined the European mid-20th century modernism that she studied with her African American Heritage — “A Short Piece for Orchestra” and her setting of the Stabat Mater; William Levi Dawson’s Negro Folk Symphony; and Ulysses Kay’s Scherzi Musicali.
