We move on to the Lehigh Valley for this next broadcast in our special series this week, welcoming one of the musical symphonic gems of our region, the Allentown Symphony Orchestra. This Lehigh Valley musical treasure has been around over 70 years, with only three music directors in its history and their current director Maestro Diane Wittry has been at the helm for nearly 30 years. This broadcast will feature a concert from just last month of a Symphony, Concerto & Overture, but in Maestro Wittry's ‘upside-down’ order as we begin with the evergreen Symphony No. 4 of Gustav Mahler with special guest soloist soprano Mei Gui Zhan, followed by a Concerto for String Orchestra by 20th-century Polish composer Grazyna Bacewicz, and rounding it out with the Overture to the opera Tannhauser by Richard Wagner. Maestro Wittry joins David Osenberg as co-host for this broadcast.
