Piffaro Explores Musical Legacy of Venetian Family of Wind Players

The wind players of Philadelphia-based Piffaro The Renaissance Band look at one of the most potent examples of musical immigration in 16th century Europe - the story of the Bassano family - in this broadcast Monday (4/28 at 8 pm).

In this performance, recorded this past March, Piffaro pays musical homage to one of the really important families of music - the Italian born wind players that made up the Bassano Family - in a concert called All Excellent and Esteemed: The Bassano Family. After rising to the top of their profession in Venice, it was with those words of praise that the emissary of Henry VIII wrote to his monarch about these talented brothers. Henry promptly brought them to the English court, where their family's musicians flourished for generations. Artistic Director Priscilla Herreid serves as co-host for this broadcast with David Osenberg.
