Antonio Vivaldi composed this two-act oratorio, about the biblical widow who saves her Judean town from siege by the Assyrians by a calculated yet grisly act, to be performed by the women living at the at Venice's Ospedale della Pieta in Venice, a convent and orphanage where he served as a music teacher. Tempesta di Mare presented this work in collaboration with the UPenn music department in March 2024. Orchestra co-founders and artistic directors Gwyn Roberts and Richard Stone join David Osenberg as co-hosts for this broadcast.
