The Dress Circle: Instrumentalized Broadway

On last week’s Dress Circle, we played several instrumental pieces, and you kindly let us know that you liked to hear orchestral versions of musicals, so on this week’s program (12/8 7:00 p.m.), we’ll hear symphonic suites from five shows with which you are mostly likely familiar.

We’ve got two by Stephen Sondheim that include his “Pacific Overtures” and “Sweeney Todd.” Andrew Lloyd Webber is represented by a suite from “Cats” and Richard Rodgers in a suite from “South Pacific.” Our most recent suite comes from the Stephen Flaherty score for “Ragtime.”

If you like symphonic music, then this week’s program is certainly one for you, and even though you won’t hear any of the lyrics, feel free to sing along. That is, unless you’re streaming our program and are listening in a crowded store. That could get a bit awkward but in the best possible way.
