In the past, we’ve “marched” into March, but we’ve decided to “Parade into March” on this week’s Dress Circle (3/9 7:00 p.m.) with songs from a variety of musicals from stage and screen. We’ve done a program of parades before, but this time, the titles must contain the word “parade.”
From the stage, we’ve got a variety of parades, some rather “posh,” from shows like “Anyone Can Whistle,” “Holiday Inn,” “Flower Drum Song,” “Sweethearts,” and “Starting Here, Starting Now.”
We’ll be heading out to Jones Beach for a 1954 musical by Carmen Lombardo and John Jacob Loeb titled “Arabian Nights.” (That’s one of the posh ones!)
Other parades will come from “Take Me Along,” and “Hello, Dolly!”.
Films are represented with a suite by Carl Davis from “The Big Parade” the “Parade of the Charioteers” from Miklos Rozsa’s score for “Ben Hur,” and “The Swan Princess,” an animated feature with songs by Lex de Azevedo and David Zippel.
We’ve also got a bit of nostalgia as we turn to something from the Disney studios, the “soundtrack” for the Main Street Electrical Parade; a piece that makes Michael happy every time he hears it.
Join us for an hour of the best possible parades in that you don’t have to move an inch or take one single step!
