'Inside Music' Goes Live for Brahms/Tchaikovsky Birthday Celebration

Program Book
Program notes:
Brahms Piano Quartet in G Minor, Op. 25, Movement IV
Tchaikovsky Romance in F Minor, Op. 5

WWFM The Classical Network, together with The Discovery Orchestra, will present a live broadcast of Inside Music with George Marriner Maull Friday, May 7 at 8 pm, capping a day-long birthday celebration of the music of Piotr Ilych Tchaikovsky and Johannes Brahms.

Maestro Maull, Artistic Director of The Discovery Orchestra, will be joined by members of The Discovery Orchestra to perform and discuss selections from works of these two composers. The event will be broadcast live from the Black Box Theater on the West Windsor Campus of Mercer County Community College,  following appropriate social distancing guidelines (with no on-site audience). This marks the third live concert presented by WWFM since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tchaikovsky and Brahms, each born on May 7 seven years and 2,000 miles apart, developed very different approaches to writing music. These differences will be explored by Maestro Maull and The Discovery Orchestra Quartet in this special two-hour live radio broadcast of Inside Music.

The Discovery Orchestra members violinist Rebekah Johnson, cellist Scott Ballantyne and pianist Hiroko Sasaki will be joined by guest violist Arturo Delmoni. The program will include the fourth movement, Rondo alla Zingarese: presto from the Brahms G Minor Piano Quartet No. 1, Opus 25; and Tchaikovsky’s Romance in F Minor: Andante cantabile, Opus 5. This program is made possible in part by Dan & Gail Kopp and The Kosloski Family Foundation. WWFM Music Director David Osenberg is the producer of Inside Music.

Regular episodes of Inside Music can be heard every second and fourth Saturday of the month at 7:30 pm.

Rachel Katz is the host of A Tempo which airs Saturdays at 7 pm.
