We’re back at the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden for this week’s Sunday Opera (7/26 3:00 p.m.) and Modest Mussorgsky’s only completed opera “Boris Godunov” which had its world premiere in 1871 after being rejected in 1870 because it had no female roles. Mussorgsky rewrote the opera, and when it was staged, it used the recycled sets and costumes from Pushkin’s play (written in blank verse) which had premiered in 1870.

We’re off to the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden on this week’s Sunday Opera (7/19 3:00 p.m.) and their 2025 production of Leos Janacek’s “The Makropulos Affair” or “The Makropulos Case” or “The Makropulos Case,” or “The Makropulos Thing” (a direct translation from the play by Karel Capek on which it is based). It was composed between 1923 and 1925 and had its world premiere at the National Theatre in Brno in 1926.

The Royal Opera House at Covent Garden is once again the home for this week’s Sunday Opera (8/31 3:00 p.m.) as we turn to the second of the operas in Richard Wagner’s Ring Cycle, “Die Walkure" with Christopher Maltman as Wotan and Elisabet Strid as Brunhilde.

We’re back at Covent Garden for this week’s Sunday Opera (8/24 3:00 p.m.) and the Royal Opera House production of Puccini’s “Turandot” featuring Sondra Raadvanovsky in the titular role and Seokjong Baek as Calaf.

We’re staying at the Royal Opera House for this week’s Sunday Opera (8/17 3:00 p.m.) and a double bill of operas by Leonard Bernstein, his 1952 work “Trouble in Tahiti” and the sequel, “A Quiet Place,” written 31 years later in 1983. The story was initially based on the troubled relationship of Bernstein’s parents.

We're concluding our time at the Royal Opera House with Strauss' revenge tragedy "Elektra" with Ausrine Stundyte in the title role. After the opera, we'll have two more Strauss works: "Ein Heldenleben" and the ballet score, "Schlagobers."

Sondra Radvonovsky, Brian Jagde, and Etienne Dupuis head the cast in this look at how the fate of four people is determined because of an accidental shooting.

Berg's tale of a destitute soldier who is abused by his captain, suffers through medical experimentation, and ultimately succumbs to his mistrust for his partner causing him to drown, "Wozzeck," is this week's opera from the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden.

This week's opera is "Samson et Dalila" from London's Royal Opera House at Covent Garden featuring SeokJonk Baek in the title role and Elina Garanca as Dalila.
