Johann Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus”? … and it isn’t anywhere near New Year’s Eve! We are, however, going to Vienna for a recent production of this beloved favorite on this week’s Sunday Opera (9/6 3:00 p.m.).

The age-old story of boy gets girl, boy loses girl, and boy poisons girl is featured on this week’s Sunday Opera (8/30 3:00 p.m.) in Giuseppe Verdi’s “Luisa Miller” in a production from the Vienna State Opera.

Beethoven’s only opera, “Fidelio,” is the centerpiece of this week’s all-Beethoven Sunday Opera (6/21 3:00 p.m.) in a production from the Vienna State Opera with Maylim Bystrom in the titular role.

Most people have heard selections form Bedrich Smetana’s “The Bartered Bride,” but this week’s Sunday Opera (6/14 3:00 p.m.) will give listeners the change to enjoy the entire work in a live performance from the Vienna State Opera.

Our final production from the Vienna State Opera is the feature on this week’s Sunday Opera (12/14 3:00 p.m.) as we turn to Richard Strauss’ gentle comedy, “Arabella.” The opera is set in Vienna in the 1860s even though it didn’t premiere until 1933.It centers on the Waldner family who are facing bankruptcy because of the father’s (Wolfgang Bankl) gambling. The mother’s (Margaret Plummer) only hope is that one of their daughters, Arabella (Camilla Nylund), will marry a wealthy man.

We’re heading to the Vienna State Opera for Tchaikovsky’s “Iolanta” on this week’s Sunday Opera (12/7 3:00 p.m.) for a story awakening love and sight gained that takes place in the 15th century in the mountains of southern France.

This week's opera comes from Vienna once again and features Strauss' metaphysical opera about the otherworldly Empress who must achieve a shadow (a child) or she will die and her husband will turn to stone.

This week we're heading to the Vienna State Opera's production of "Guillaume Tell" featuring Roberto Frontali in the title role. The opera will be followed by more music of Rossini.

Our final opera from the Vienna State Opera is Richard Strauss' "Salome" with Malin Bystrom in the title role. We'll continue with an afternoon of the music of Strauss with another of his one-act operas "Feuersnot" followed by his mesmerizing "Metamorphosen."

Our first of two operas from the Vienna State Opera is Beethoven's 1814 first and only opera "Fidelio" about a courageous woman's plight to save her falsely imprisoned husband by pretending to be a young man.
