The Sunday Opera: Donizetti's "Don Pasquale" from the San Francisco Opera

We could all use some levity just now, and there will be an afternoon of it when this week’s Sunday Opera (11/11 3:00 p.m.) features the San Francisco Opera production of Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale” where a poor and rebellious nephew and his beloved teach his conniving uncle a lesson about love and family.  The cast includes Maurizio Muraro in the title role, Lawrence Brownlee is his nephew Ernesto, and Heidi Stober as Ernesto’s beloved Norina.

After “Pasquale,” please join Michael Kownacky for another of Donizetti’s comedies, his 27th opera, “Il Borgomastro di Sardaam” that follows the exploits of Peter the Great who, disguised as a commoner working in the shipyards of Sardaam in Holland, helps another to find love.  This rarity features a cast headed by Peter van den Berg, Philipp Langridge, Renato Capecchi, and Ans Philippo.

Michael is program host and host of the WWFM Sunday Opera, Sundays at 3 pm, and co-host of The Dress Circle, Sundays at 7 pm.
