Lyric Stage: October 18 - Four Legends before they were Legends

Legends weren't always legends, and this week on the Lyric Stage, we have four singers with recordings from early in their careers. A young Mario Del Monaco sings Puccini and Mayerbeer with a more restrained approach than he later became known for. Herbert Von Karajan guides his young protege Mirella Freni in a 1963 performance of La Boheme at the Vienna State Opera, and Luciano Pavarotti sings the final scene from Lucia di Lammermoor from the mid-sixties. And if you have been waiting to hear Maria Callas sing Wagner, she will give us the Libestod from "Tristan and Isolde" as well as an excerpt from her only studio recording of "La Traviata".
