For this week’s episode of the ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, The Classical Network’s Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler presents all twelve of Debussy’s Preludes Book II, featuring different pianists.
“I’ve chosen a different pianist to represent each respective Prelude, without repeating any artist,” Distler explains. “Basically I tried to find a broad stylistic and generation representation of pianists, and to draw attention to some wonderful performances. Some of these pianists are super well-known, others are not. Yet there are no weak links among these performances."
The twelve pianists, in alphabetical order will be Alessandra Ammara, Robert Casadesus, François Chaplin, Dino Ciani, Marc-André Hamelin, Vladimir Horowitz, Paul Jacobs, Marcelle Meyer, Sviatoslav Richter, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Kornél Zempléni, and Krystian Zimerman.
“However, I’m not going to tell you now who plays what piece,” says Distler. “You’ll simply have to tune in to find out!”
So join Jed DIstler for the “ideal” Debussy Preludes Book II this week on Between the Keys, Tuesday May 11th at 10:00 PM, with a rebroadcast Wednesday May 12th at Noon, exclusively on The Classical Network and WWFM.org.
