Chamber Classics on Between the Keys June 8th & 9th

For this week's episode of the ASCAP Deems Taylor Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, The Classical Network's Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler presents three historic chamber music recordings.

The program begins with Debussy's Cello Sonata, a late period masterpiece, featuring cellist Raya Garbousova and pianist Artur Balsam. It follows with the tragically short-lived Henri-Octave Ferroud's Cello Sonata, with cellist Maurice Marechal and pianist Hélène Pigari-Allen. And last but hardly least, the classic 1937 Cesar Frank Violin Sonata recording that stood as the work's interpretive gold standard for many years, with violinist Jascha Heifetz and pianist Arthur Rubinstein in their only recorded duo sonata collaboration.

"I haven't focused much in the past on programming chamber music on Between the Keys," says Distler, so I'm slightly overcompensating this week! Seriously, though, I thought it could be a nice change to present a kind of mini-recital featuring chamber recordings that have long been dear to my heart."

Tune in Tuesday June 8th at 10 PM, with a rebroadcast Wednesday June 9th at noon. Between the Keys is an exclusive production of The Classical Network and WWFM.org
