The Sunday Opera: Supernatural Opera for Halloween and Getty's "The Canterville Ghost"

xxx_ghost_final.jpg

The spirits of the airwaves are taking over this week’s Sunday Opera (10/31 3:00 p.m.) for an afternoon of witches, ghosts, and all manner of things that go bump in the night for Halloween.   As part of our Fall Membership campaign, David Osenberg will be joining us for a live program featuring some of our favorite spooky operatic moments from a variety of works.   It wouldn’t be a true “trick-or-treat” afternoon if we told you everything, but we can tell you that Michael Kownacky will be capping off the afternoon with Gordon Getty’s "The Canterville Ghost."  This one-act opera is based on Oscar Wilde’s charmingly supernatural story of Sir Simon Canterville who longs to be released from his 300 year-long curse and finally rest in peace, and he finds his salvation in the daughter of an American family who moves into his English manor.

Lock the door, put up your feet, grab the candy bowl, and keep the phone handy to call with your pledge of support to the Classical Network and join us this Sunday for music and membership by going to WWFM.org and clicking on Donate in the upper right-hand corner of the station’s home page.

Michael is program host and host of the WWFM Sunday Opera, Sundays at 3 pm, and co-host of The Dress Circle, Sundays at 7 pm.
