May 8th/Between the Keys remembers Michael Sahl
The Classical Network's Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler remembers the multi-faceted, style-bending composer and pianist Michael Sahl (1934-2018) on Tuesday's edition of Between the Keys, at 10:00 PM May 8th. Mr. Sahl, 83, had been in poor health for some time before he passed away peacefully on March 28th in New York City.
"Many of us in the music community only learned of Michael's death through a social media post that went viral on or around April 23rd," Distler says. "Although I had known about his illness, the news still came as a shock. Michael was a musical force of nature, a protean creative voice, and, my goodness, what a big, big sound he got out of the piano!"
Performances include Sahl's 35 minute solo piano tour-de-force "Serenades, played by Joseph Kubera, plus original ensemble works by Sahl, and selections by The Tango Project, with Sahl at the piano, accordionist William Schimmel, and violinists Stan Kurtis and Mary Rowell.
