Between the Keys goes “Mazurking” on October 1st

For this week’s edition of the ASCAP Deems Taylor Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, the Classical Network’s Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler and his special guest, pianist/composer Steve Sandberg explore Chopin’s Mazurkas.

“Steve’s insights into the Mazurkas focus upon the music’s spiritual and emotional qualities, characteristics that deeply define the performances that he has selected for this episode,” says Distler. “For example, I’ve long known the legendary Mazurka interpretations of Ignaz Friedman and Moriz Rosenthal, but I did not know Sándor Falvay and Marianna Rosett. I’m so glad that Steve turns us on to these wonderful artists, as well as the (to my ears) idiosyncratic Andrzej Wasowski. More significantly, we’ll hear some very special Mazurka performances from Steve Sandberg himself, plus an original composition inspired by Chopin’s Op. 24 No. 2 Mazurka.”

Tune in this Tuesday at 10 PM for Between the Keys, an exclusive production of The Classical Network and WWFM.org
