Franz Liszt’s music dominates this week’s edition of the ASCAP Deems Taylor Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, hosted by the Classical Network’s Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler.
“We haven’t had an all-Liszt program for some time,” says Distler,” so I decided to pour through my collection and put together a play list of terrific performances by some of the best ‘Liszt Makers’ on record.”
Distler may be a terrible punster, but he’s a canny programmer when it comes to the Liszt discography. “We’ll hear both justly celebrated Lisztianers like Emanuel Ax, Vladimir Horowitz and Claudio Arrau, as well as less celebrated yet equally important artists like France Clidat, Sergio Fiorentino, Gregori Ginzburg and Joseph Villa. Among today’s great young Liszt players, we’ll have recordings by Goran Filipec and Muza Rubackyté. It’s quite a line up!”
