The Lost Chord: October 27 - Mummy Dearest

mummy_heart_hands__2_.jpg

By the time “The Romance of the Mummy” received its belated premiere in 1912, its composer, Ernest Fanelli, had already stopped writing music for 18 years.  Yet the work anticipates notable innovations in the output of Debussy, Ravel, Dukas, Schmitt, Strauss, Sibelius, Holst, Respighi, and even Stravinsky. Others undoubtedly took the discoveries of this neglected pioneer to greater heights, but Fanelli definitely got there first.  Hear the story of how his remarkable music lay unperformed for 30 years, only to be exhumed in the modern era.  The mummy lives, this Sunday at 10 pm.
