It’s music for the New Year by two English composers whose surnames begin with “T.” Experience contrasting works, in Sir Michael Tippett’s suite from the abstruse opera “New Year” and Ernest Tomlinson’s over-the-top “Variations on ‘Auld Lang Syne.’” The hour will conclude with a waltz from Tomlinson’s “Cinderella,” someone else who clearly understands the transformative power of 12.
