We’re going to Hollywood for this week’s Dress Circle (1/16 7:00 p.m.) and some title songs from well and lesser-known films. This time, however, we’ll be focusing on vocal performances of those songs. Many will be directly from the soundtracks of films such as “On a Clear Day You Can See Forever,” “Alfie,” “Love Me or Leave Me,” “River of No Return,” and “What’s New Pussycat?”. Others will include covers by some very familiar performers that were chart hits over the years. Oh, and in the case of the theme from “Laura,” the lyrics came much later as the theme by David Raksin was so popular, Johnny Mercer added lyrics, and the song became even more popular. Some of the vocalists you’ll hear include Doris Day, Johnny Mathis, Marilyn Monroe, Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Bob Hope, Barbra Streisand, Tom Jones, Peggy Lee, Frank Sinatra, and The Four Aces.
It’s pure nostalgia on this week’s Dress Circle, so we hope you’ll join us for an extremely pleasant evening. Also, be prepared to sing along, because we guarantee you’re going to know quite a few of the songs we’ve programmed.
Just for fun, we’re planning a happy little coda to close the evening with which you might not be that familiar, but we’re pretty sure you’ll be humming it for a few weeks to come!
