Concordia Chamber Players presents "Roots" on April 27, 2025 at Trinity Church, Solebury PA
Concordia will showcase three composers whose cultural heritage resonates deeply in their music. Joaquín Turina's Piano Quartet in A minor, Opus 67 (1931) captures the spirit of Spain. William Grant Still, the dean of African-American composers, composed his Suite for Violin and Piano (1943) inspired by three Harlem Renaissance sculptures by Richmond Barthé, Sargent Johnson, and Augusta Savage. We conclude with Johannes Brahms's beloved Piano Quartet No. 1 in G minor, Opus 25, a masterpiece deeply rooted in Hungarian and "gypsy" musical traditions that evokes the streets of Vienna.
