Music of Renaissance Peru, Bolivia & Chile in Chestnut Hill, PA
Celebrate the flowering of spring Entre dos Álamos, “between two poplars,” in charming Chestnut Hill!
This evocative phrase, the title of our concert, is from the story of the envious river Tagus’ efforts to separate two lovers, just awakened by the arrival of the new season, set to music by Juan Blas de Castro and collected in the Peruvian Codex Zuola. It’s but one example of the magnificent music from 16th and 17th century Peru, Bolivia, and Chile that Piffaro’s virtuosic period instrumentalists and a stellar cast of singers – tenor & lutenist Jonatan Alvarado (a special guest from Argentina), sopranos Nell Snaidas and Estelí Gomez, alto Kirsten Sollek, and bass-baritone Andrew Padgett – will bring back to life.
