This is America
This is America
What does it mean to be “American,” living in a place filled with a wide variety of cultures, people, and experiences? The beautiful fusion and chaotic clashing of our collected differences have been the inspiration for many composers. In this Salon series, the NBCO string quartet explores it all: the beauty, the pain, the chaos, and the harmony of what it's like to be an American. Our Salons feature a relaxed, casual, ‘art-opening’ type atmosphere with short pieces interspersed with social breaks for wine and cheese. Each work is given a light-hearted introduction briefly explaining the composition’s history or background and any musical components of particular interest. Composers include Florence Price, Phillip Glass, Rhiannon Giddens, Leonard Bernstein, and a premiere by Jorge Taberés. The event is free.
