Music of joy echoes our New Jersey springtime. Two buoyant Mozart masterworks surround hold-your-breath splendor by Bach, with Michael Abels providing a bluesy twist. At center stage, we’re proud to illuminate the artistry of two New Jersey Symphony principals, violinists Eric Wyrick and Francine Storck.

Princeton Pro Musica Symphonic Chorus & Orchestra presents James McCarthy’s stirring "Codebreaker," an oratorio for chorus, soprano, and orchestra that depicts three scenes from the extraordinary and ultimately heartbreaking life of famed mathematician and father of computer science Alan Turing.

At 3:00PM, there will be a pre-concert talk about Codebreaker by Dr. Scott AuCoin, Associate Choral Director at the University of Alabama School of Music. Dr. AuCoin conducted the US premiere of codebreaker, and will give us a closer view of the musical and textural elements that make this ravishing composition.

Musica Viva ends its 2024 – 2025 season with Johannes Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, which is one of the most imposing and profoundly moving musical statements in history. A work with personal significance to our Artistic Director, Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez, Brahms’ Requiem is the most humanistic and universal of all the works of its type. As a companion to the Requiem, Musica Viva NY presents the opening movement of Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony, which was a formative early influence in Alejandro’s life-journey.

Night Music, a period-instrument chamber ensemble, will present “‘Ich bin ein Berliner’: Music from the Court of Frederick the Great” at Powel House, 244 S. 3rd Street, on Wednesday, May 21. Pre-concert talk by musicologist Dr. Ellen Exner (The Juilliard School) at 6:30 PM, concert at 7:00 PM. Featuring Karen Dekker, violin, Steven Zohn, flute, Heather Miller Lardin, viola da gamba, and John Walthausen, harpsichord.

The finest among eighteenth-century composers wrote music not only for entertainment, but also to educate and inspire those who paid their salaries. In “Ich bin ein Berliner,” Night Music invites audiences to a multifaceted experience of musical life at the Berlin court of Frederick the Great of Prussia – including an opportunity to connect with the musicians over a mid-concert reception (with jelly donuts, naturally!)

As an avid music lover and staunch supporter of the arts, Frederick played the flute and composed. Night Music’s program highlights the king’s musical circle, including his sister Anna Amalia, his flute teacher and other court musicians, and several members of the Bach family. Featured is the dramatic trio sonata from Johann Sebastian Bach’s Musical Offering, the linchpin of an epic collection based on a fugue subject that Frederick himself presented to Bach.

Night Music, now in its 10th season, is a period-instrument chamber ensemble based in the greater Philadelphia area. Its repertoire centers on the Classical and early Romantic periods (roughly 1750–1850), highlighting excellent yet seldom-heard music by composers both familiar and obscure. The ensemble’s mission is to explore this repertoire with audiences in Philadelphia and beyond.

GatherNYC artistic director and classical guitar virtuoso Rupert Boyd takes listeners on a journey across centuries and continents on the six strings of his guitar. From Malian kora music to atmospheric sounds from Japan to contemporary music from his home country of Australia to classic works for the Spanish guitar, Boyd’s riveting program has something for everyone.

GatherNYC is a revolutionary concert experience founded in 2018 by cellist Laura Metcalf and guitarist Rupert Boyd. The 2024-2025 season includes 17-concerts that run from October 2024 through June 2025, with concerts held every other Sunday at 11am in The Theater at MAD.

Guests at GatherNYC are served exquisite live classical music performed by New York’s immensely talented artists, artisanal coffee and pastries, a taste of spoken word, and a brief celebration of silence. The entire experience lasts one hour and evokes the community and spiritual nourishment of a religious service – but the religion is music, and all are welcome. Coffee and pastries are served before each performance at 10:30am.

The Grammy Award-winning University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra arrives at Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage directly from its tour of South Africa. Soprano and 2025 Grammy Award winner Karen Slack, South African soprano Goitsemang Lehobye, and bass Daniel Washington are featured in this concert conducted by UMSO Music Director and Grammy nominee Kenneth Kiesler. The evening’s program combines film and stage music by Bernstein and Gershwin with Dawson’s Negro Folk Symphony, and spirituals that are both moving and joyful.
