TOMS RIVER – Relive the days when teens danced to the tunes on American Bandstand with “American Bandstand: Philadelphia 1957-1963,” a multimedia presentation by Rick Feingold, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 3 at the Toms River Branch of the Ocean County Library.
American Bandstand originated in 1957 as a five-day-a-week afternoon television show. It featured teenagers dancing to Top 40 records introduced by Dick Clark. Students would dance on the show which all their teachers watched.
This program, set in Philadelphia 1957-1963, features original live performances of “Rock Around the Clock” by Bill Haley and the Comets, “Mack the Knife” by Bobby Darin, “Tears on My Pillow” by Little Anthony, “Charlie Brown” by the Coasters, “Great Balls of Fire” by Jerry Lee Lewis, “Rock ‘n’ Roll is Here to Stay” by Danny and the Juniors, and more.
Rick Feingold teachers American Business History at Bergen Community College and holds an MBA from Penn State University and B.A. in History from Rutgers University.
This program is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Ocean County Library – Toms River, volunteers who support the library through fundraising, programs, and advocacy. Berlioz used all the colors in a composer’s paintbox–and created a few new ones all his own–for his Symphonie fantastique, a swirling portrait of an artist’s passion, dreams and ecstasy. We’ll place this alongside the unparalleled elegance of Emanuel Ax at the piano, and brand-new music from our gifted Resident Artistic Partner Allison Loggins-Hull–a finale to cherish!

The Bay Atlantic Symphony performs Arthur Foote’s Serenade, Op. 25, Bach’s Violin Concerto in A minor with violinist Ruotao Mao, and Isaac Albeniz’s España. The center of Bach’s violin concerto is a breathtakingly lyrical middle movement with a sweeping melody of spiritual dimensions, shared between the soloist and orchestra. It is bookended by jaunty movements, the last being a gigue (jig). American composer Arthur Foote’s Serenade sings to us with bucolic grace and rhapsody. Albéniz’s España takes us on a sensual tour of picturesque regions throughout Spain.
