The Dress Circle: Songs About Mothers for Mother's Day

Just as there are many types of mothers, there are many types of songs about mothers in the musicals, and we’re going to showcase some of them on this week’s Dress Circle (5/8 7:00 p.m.) as we celebrate Mother’s Day.

Once again, we’ll hear from some well-known and lesser-known shows including more recent works such as “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” by David Yazbek, “Bounce” by Stephen Sondheim, and “Mamma Mia!” which, of course, used the music of ABBA.

We’ll also hear from older shows such as Lerner and Loewe’s “Brigadoon,” Kander and Ebb’s “Cabaret, and Porter’s “Panama Hattie.”

We’ve also turned to a TV musical, “The Pied Piper of Hamelin,” a musical version of “The Importance of Being Earnest” entitled “Ernest in Love,” “Enter Laughing,” “The Arcadians,” and “Hello, Dolly!”.

Please join us as we celebrate mothers of all sorts because, let’s face it, they had children of all sorts as well!
