Happy October! We’re welcoming in this tenth month with New York openings spanning 124 years on this week’s Dress Circle (10/2 7:00 pm.).
Our oldest entry comes from an 1894 show entitled “The Irish Artist” and a song written and performed by Chauncey Olcott who penned music for and/or appeared in some 20 shows on Broadway and regionally. From there, we jump to 2018 and the international sensation which takes a modern look at the ladies whose lives were unfortunately linked with Henry VIII. “Six” is currently on Broadway and enjoying two national tours.
Once again, we’ve tried to assemble a program of well-known and lesser-known works by writers like Jerry Herman, Bob Merrill, Jerry Bock, and Sheldon Harnick, Stephen Schwartz, Kurt Weill, Ogden Nash, Jule Styne, Sammy Cahn, and Irving Berlin.
Some of the more familiar shows on this week’s program include “Call Me Madam,” “Mama Mia!”, and “Wicked.”
Some of the shows of which you may not have heard include “High Button Shoes,” “Henry, Sweet Henry,” “Ben Franklin in Paris,” and “The Apple Tree.”
Known or unknown, we can promise more excellent performances on this week’s program.
