The Dress Circle: All-Star "South Pacific"

We haven’t done so in a while, but this week’s Dress Circle (9/27 7:00 p.m.) is an “all-star” look at a musical favorite: Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “South Pacific.” This musicalization of James A. Michener’s “Tales of the South Pacific” looks at the lives of American servicemen and women that is underscored by two characters’ internal struggles with racism and bigotry.

There are eight cast recordings in the line-up, featuring the original Broadway cast, film soundtrack cast, revival casts, and television cast.

The songs from the score are performed by Mary Martin, Florence Henderson, Kelli O’Hara, Lauren Kennedy, and Glenn Close as Nellie. As De Becque, we’ll hear from Justino Diaz, Giorgio Tozzi, Ezio Pinza, Philip Quast, and Brian Stokes Mitchell. Jason Danieley and Harry Connick, Jr. share the role of Lt Cable, and our Bloody Mary dutes go to Juanita Hall and Lauri Tan Chinn.

Join us for an afternoon featuring the songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “South Pacific,” and we’ve even included the cut song, “The Girl Back Home” for extra measure.
