Tempus isn’t just fugit-ing, it’s turning absolutely supersonic! We’re suddenly in the penultimate month of 2023, so we’re going to be looking at some of the shows that opened this month on this week’s Dress Circle (11/5 7:00 p.m.).
Our November openings cover 121 years of Broadway history beginning with a 1902 musical entitled “A Prince of Tatters” that actually closed on its way to New York! Our most recent show is actually opening this year and is a revival of Eric Idle’s “Spamalot.” Since we didn’t have a new cast recording for this revival, we’re turning to the original cast album. We’re also looking at the 2022 opening of the fascinating story of “Kimberly Akimbo” featuring a stellar performance by Victoria Clark in the title role.
We’ll also hear from other well-known shows such as “Ragtime,” “The Prom,” and “Peter Pan,” but the bulk of the program features some rather unfamiliar musicals including Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Pipe Dream,” Harold Rome’s “The Zulu and the Zayda,” and the long-forgotten Dietz and Schwartz vehicle for Barbara Cook entitled “The Gay Life.”
There are more, and we hope that you’ll tune in this Sunday evening to hear them.
